About the Role Swindon Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and skilled Domestic Abuse Officer to join our Family Safeguarding Team within Children’s Services.
You’ll play a key role in supporting families affected by domestic abuse — working with both victims and perpetrators to reduce risk, strengthen family relationships, and improve outcomes for children.
Our Family Safeguarding Teams bring together professionals from across social work, mental health, probation, and substance misuse services to work collaboratively using a Motivational Interviewing approach. Together, we empower families to make sustainable changes and keep more children safely at home.

What You’ll Do
- Provide high-quality assessment and intervention for high-risk families within the Family Safeguarding model.
- Work directly with victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse, supporting behaviour change and developing safety plans.
- Assess and manage risk of harm through close collaboration with police, probation, social care, and MARAC/MAPPA partners.
- Deliver or contribute to group interventions such as Thinking Skills, Building Better Relationships, Caring Dads, and Anger Management programmes.
- Undertake home visits, complete assessments, and record information accurately using the Council’s database.
- Share information appropriately within multi-agency settings to ensure joined-up safeguarding practice.
- Contribute to group supervision, team meetings, and case conferences, ensuring risk management and safeguarding responsibilities are met.
Essential Requirements:
- Relevant Probation Officer qualification or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience supporting victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse, delivering interventions with demonstrable outcomes.
- Strong understanding of domestic abuse dynamics, risk assessment, and risk management.
- Experience representing services at formal multi-agency forums such as MARAC or MAPPA.
- Knowledge of CBT and Motivational Interviewing techniques.
- Understanding of housing, criminal, civil, and welfare rights legislation relating to domestic abuse.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and partnership working skills.
