Early Years Transformation Lead

Location: Hybrid (Office-based weekly + visits to local settings/providers) - Medway
Contract: Initial 6 months (possible extension to 12 months)
Rate: £450 – £500 per day

About the Role We are seeking an experienced and visionary Early Years Transformation Lead to drive forward Medway’s Early Years improvement journey. This is an exciting opportunity to work in partnership with a range of services in response to the DfE’s Best Start in Life Strategy, and to lead on implementing the recommendations from a recent peer review.

The postholder will play a pivotal role in coordinating system-wide transformation — ensuring that children from birth to five receive high-quality, inclusive, and evidence-informed support, with a particular focus on improving outcomes for children with SEND and those experiencing disadvantage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of Medway’s Early Years transformation priorities, aligning with national policy and local strategic objectives.
  • Work collaboratively across education, health, and community sectors to integrate and improve services for young children and families.
  • Champion co-production with parents and carers, ensuring services are responsive and inclusive.
  • Support the Early Years workforce through training, leadership development, and shared learning opportunities.
  • Oversee performance and outcomes, using data to inform decision-making and measure impact.
Essential Requirements
  • Proven leadership experience in Early Years, SEND, or children’s services transformation.
  • Strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), SEND Code of Practice, and national Early Years reform agendas.
  • Excellent partnership-building and stakeholder engagement skills across multi-agency settings.
  • Access to own vehicle and business insurance, with flexibility to travel across the local area.
  • Ability to attend the office weekly as part of a hybrid working arrangement.
Why Join Us? This is a unique opportunity to make a measurable difference in shaping the future of Early Years services — influencing policy, practice, and outcomes for Medway’s youngest children.
If you’re a passionate and strategic leader ready to inspire change and deliver impact, we’d love to hear from you.
