Family Service Worker Cheshire East Council

Cheshire East Council is seeking a committed and experienced Family Service Worker to join its Children’s Services team, supporting families through high-quality, evidence-based early intervention and preventative services.

This is an excellent opportunity for a practitioner who is passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people and families, and who thrives in a multi-agency, community-focused environment.

The Role As a Family Service Worker, you will work in partnership with colleagues across Children’s Services and external agencies to deliver targeted, coordinated programmes that support families across the 0–19 age range. You will undertake holistic assessments, deliver tailored interventions, and ensure families receive the right support at the right time.

You will play a key role in identifying emerging needs early, prioritising vulnerable and harder-to-reach families, and ensuring safeguarding concerns are appropriately escalated.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a comprehensive range of evidence-based programmes to children, young people and families

  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies to provide co-ordinated, outcome-focused interventions

  • Undertake holistic family assessments and develop, deliver and review individual support plans

  • Actively seek and respond to the views of service users

  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential records and reports

  • Collect and analyse data to support performance management and service improvement

  • Identify safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately in line with policy and procedure

  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends where required, to meet service needs

What We’re Looking For Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent (or extensive relevant experience where qualification criteria are not met)

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths

  • Experience delivering outcome-focused programmes and interventions with children and families

  • Experience of multi-agency working and accurate case recording

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child development and early intervention

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes

Desirable:

  • Relevant youth, community, social care or similar qualification

  • Experience of CAF assessments

  • Group work delivery with parents/carers

  • Experience working with families in their own homes

  • Experience working with harmful sexual behaviour (HSB) cases

Additional Information
  • This role requires travel across the Cheshire East borough

  • A flexible approach to working hours is essential

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding, equality, and Cheshire East Council’s values is required
