Service Area: Adoption Counts
Location: Stockport

We are currently recruiting for a Family Support Worker – Letterbox to join Adoption Counts, supporting children, birth families and adoptive families across the region.

This is a rewarding role where you will play a key part in helping children maintain their identity and sense of belonging through secure and sensitive communication between adoptive families and birth relatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate Letterbox contact between adoptive families and birth families, ensuring exchanges are secure, appropriate, and child-focused.

  • Provide adoption support by delivering tailored packages of care, supporting children with identity, belonging, and security needs.

  • Work directly with adoptive families and birth families, offering guidance and support around adoption and its impact.

  • Collaborate with other agencies to ensure children and families receive the right support.

  • Contribute to service development, attend team meetings, and take part in training and regional adoption events.

  • Maintain clear, timely, and accurate records in line with policy requirements.

About You: We are looking for someone who can build trusting relationships with children and families and who is committed to child-focused, inclusive practice. The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in childcare.

  • Have experience of working with children who have experienced trauma or neglect and their families/carers.

  • Be confident working with children and young people with challenging behaviours.

  • Have knowledge of adoption, attachment, safeguarding, and child development.

  • Be able to work effectively with colleagues, partner agencies, and families.

  • Have strong communication, organisational, and teamwork skills.

  • Be a car driver (alternative arrangements will be considered for disabled applicants).

Why Join Us? This role gives you the opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of adopted children and their families, helping them feel supported, understood, and connected. You’ll be part of a passionate, dedicated team within a forward-thinking regional adoption agency.
