Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children, young people, and their families? Worcestershire Children First is seeking a committed and proactive Family Support Worker to support families where a Child in Need Plan is in place, as well as those on the edge of local authority care.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated team focused on strengthening families, promoting positive change, and helping to ensure children can grow up safely within supportive home environments.

Key Responsibilities As a Family Support Worker, you will:

  • Empower parents/carers to take responsibility for meeting their children's needs.

  • Support parents in developing a clear understanding of child development and positive parenting.

  • Work with families at risk of breakdown, helping to keep children safe through effective planning and intervention.

  • Work collaboratively with Social Workers and multi-agency partners as part of the “team around the family”.

  • Maintain accurate written records and prepare high-quality reports.

  • Work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours and weekend work, based on family needs.

  • Uphold Worcestershire County Council values: Customer Focus, Can Do Culture, and Freedom within Boundaries.

About You Essential experience & skills:

  • Significant experience working with children and families in a professional setting.

  • Experience delivering parenting support and activities to improve outcomes for families.

  • Strong knowledge of child development and relevant legislation (including the Children Act).

  • High-level assessment skills and the ability to use a range of assessment tools.

  • Ability to manage challenging situations, including lone working in family homes.

  • Excellent report-writing, observational, and communication skills.

  • Strong IT skills.

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Childcare, Early Years, Social Care, or similar.

  • A driving licence and access to a car during the working day.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Child Protection procedures.

  • Experience working with babies and pre-school children.

  • Familiarity with Liquid Logic and Microsoft Outlook.

  • First Aid training.

What We’re Looking For We want someone who is:

  • Child-focused, resilient, and committed to safeguarding.

  • Able to work independently and flexibly.

  • Confident in engaging with families in their own homes.

  • Committed to equality, dignity, and respect for all service users.
