About the Role
Hackney Council’s Family Support Service is seeking a dedicated Family Support Worker to provide practical, evidence-based support to children and families across the borough. You will work under the supervision of experienced social workers to deliver outcome-focused family interventions aimed at promoting safe, positive family environments and strengthening parenting capacity.
Your work will involve engaging directly with families in their homes or other community settings, supporting parents and carers, monitoring child development, and promoting children’s well-being. You will also collaborate with multi-agency partners to ensure families access the services and support they need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support assessments of children and families through observation, interviews, and information gathering.
  • Build respectful and professional relationships with children, families, and support networks.
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions in line with agreed plans to promote positive family functioning.
  • Monitor risk, provide practical guidance, and empower families to develop their parenting skills.
  • Prepare clear, concise written reports and maintain accurate case records.
  • Attend multi-agency meetings, including Child Protection Conferences and Looked After Children Reviews.
  • Work flexibly to meet families’ needs, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Engage in professional development, supervision, and training.
  • Comply with relevant legislation, safeguarding policies, and Hackney Council’s Health & Safety standards.
About You
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in child and family care.
  • Proven experience of direct work with children and families.
  • Strong understanding of child development, parenting, and family dynamics.
  • Ability to assess and balance risk and protective factors effectively.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence in applying evidence-based approaches and practical interventions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance required.
