Forensic Laboratory Officer
Location: Lancashire Constabulary HQ, Preston, PR4 5SB
Contract: 3 month contract with potential extension
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm
Pay Rate: £13.28 PAYE per hour
Start Date: ASAP (Subject to police vetting)
About the Role:
To support the Forensic Enhancement Laboratory (FEL) in the retrieval and recording of fingerprint, palm print, footwear, and indented writing evidence, ensuring integrity, accuracy, and compliance with forensic quality standards.

About the Role:
To support the Forensic Enhancement Laboratory (FEL) in the retrieval and recording of fingerprint, palm print, footwear, and indented writing evidence, ensuring integrity, accuracy, and compliance with forensic quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Examine exhibits in the laboratory and at crime scenes using advanced chemical, physical, and digital techniques.
- Capture and enhance evidence using digital imaging systems and complex lighting methods.
- Maintain quality standards in line with ISO 17025 accreditation and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Codes of Practice.
- Support investigations by providing technical advice, witness statements, and court testimony.
- Deliver training and demonstrations to new staff, visitors, and partner agencies.
- Follow strict Health & Safety protocols while handling chemicals and hazardous exhibits.
Essential skills and experience:
- A-levels (including a science) or equivalent; GCSEs in Maths, English & Science.
- Experience working in a laboratory and handling chemicals.
- Competence in digital photography and image enhancement.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety, COSHH, and Risk Assessment procedures.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including unsocial hours for major investigations.
