Gambling Practitioner role based in Tyne and Wear

We are recruiting a Gambling Practitioner to join our specialist service supporting individuals, families, and communities affected by gambling-related harm. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and compassionate professional to deliver recovery-focused, evidence-based interventions within a community-facing service.
About the Role The Gambling Practitioner will facilitate referrals, deliver assessments, and provide a range of brief, structured, and group-based interventions to individuals experiencing difficulties with gambling. The role also involves working collaboratively with partners, promoting the service, and supporting community-based approaches to reducing gambling harms.

About the Role The Gambling Practitioner will facilitate referrals, deliver assessments, and provide a range of brief, structured, and group-based interventions to individuals experiencing difficulties with gambling. The role also involves working collaboratively with partners, promoting the service, and supporting community-based approaches to reducing gambling harms.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate referrals into the service and provide screening, brief and comprehensive assessments
- Deliver a stepped-care approach including:
- Brief and extended brief interventions
- One-to-one guidance, advice, and support
- Relapse prevention programmes
- Mutual aid and recovery self-help groups
- Recovery courses and aftercare
- Develop and review recovery-oriented care plans using evidence-based approaches such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT-informed interventions, and the Five Step Model
- Encourage engagement with peer support, recovery forums, and guided self-help resources
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with partner agencies including mental health services, housing, debt advice, criminal justice, and voluntary sector organisations
- Deliver training, awareness sessions, and brief advice to professionals and community groups
- Support the development of a network of Community Champions to raise awareness of gambling-related harm
- Provide advice and guidance to colleagues working with gambling clients
- Manage a caseload in line with agreed targets and KPIs
- Maintain accurate and timely records in line with data protection, safeguarding, and clinical governance requirements
- Contribute to service monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
- NQF Level 4 (or above) qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Health and Social Care, Counselling, or similar)
- Experience working with individuals with complex needs, ideally within addictions, mental health, or psychosocial support services
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and working within governance frameworks
- Ability to deliver one-to-one and group-based interventions
- Strong communication, engagement, and partnership-working skills
- Commitment to recovery-oriented and person-centred practice
- This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check
