About the Role:
The Head of Risk will design and lead GBE’s enterprise-wide risk management framework, with a strong focus on financial and investment risk. The role ensures that GBE’s investment strategy is underpinned by robust risk governance, enabling informed decision-making and safeguarding public capital while facilitating private sector investment.
This is a high-impact role, reporting to the senior leadership team, with responsibility for shaping the risk culture and capability across the organisation.

About the Role:

This is a high-impact role, reporting to the senior leadership team, with responsibility for shaping the risk culture and capability across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management framework aligned with GBE’s mandate and investment strategy.
- Define and maintain risk appetite statements, ensuring alignment with Board-approved objectives.
- Build GBE’s risk capability, recruiting skilled professionals and overseeing external advisory support.
- Lead the identification, assessment, and monitoring of credit, market, liquidity, and counterparty risks across GBE’s portfolio.
- Oversee risk-adjusted performance analysis for equity, infrastructure investments, guarantees, loans, and grants.
- Implement robust stress testing and scenario analysis to evaluate resilience under adverse market conditions.
- Ensure compliance with UK financial regulations.
- Maintain the strategic risk register and produce regular risk reports for the Board and Audit & Risk Committee.
- Provide independent oversight and challenge to investment proposals and portfolio performance.
- Embed risk management practices across all business units.
- Establish and maintain risk policies, standards, and procedures covering financial, operational, and strategic risks.
- Drive continuous improvement in risk systems, analytics, and reporting capabilities.
Essential skills and experience:
- Significant experience in financial risk management within investment banking, infrastructure finance, or public investment institutions.
- Expertise in credit risk, market risk, and portfolio risk modelling.
- Strong understanding of UK regulatory frameworks and public-private investment structures.
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g., RM, CFA, PRM).
- Experience in renewable energy or infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with government reporting and assurance requirements.
- Experience working in a start-up or high-growth organisation.
