Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced HGV Plant Mechanic / Light & Heavy Vehicle Technician on behalf of a local authority within their Environment and Transport department.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanic to join a busy Transport Operations team, maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of vehicles and plant equipment.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, inspections, and repairs on light and heavy vehicles, plant, and passenger transport vehicles
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment
- Conduct MOT preparation and testing in line with DVSA standards
- Recover defective or damaged vehicles when required
- Complete accurate records including worksheets, inspection reports, and compliance documentation
- Ensure all work is completed to high safety and quality standards
- Support apprentices and contribute to team development
- Maintain tools and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition
Essential Requirements
- City & Guilds qualification in Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Proven experience working in a fleet workshop or garage environment
- Strong knowledge of HGVs, light vehicles, and/or plant machinery
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently
- Full UK driving licence
- Understanding of current Health & Safety legislation
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- MOT Tester Licence
- HGV Licence (Category C or C E) or willingness to obtain
- Experience with plant equipment repairs
- IT literacy (e.g. Microsoft Office)
- Continuous professional development and relevant certifications

- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
Additional Information
- Occasional out-of-hours work may be required
- Participation in standby rota may be necessary
