About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Housing Options Service to join a dedicated team providing high-quality, customer-focused advice and assistance to vulnerable families and single individuals across Derby who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. In this front-line role, you will manage your own caseload, delivering tailored advice and support aimed at preventing homelessness wherever possible. The position requires a strong ability to assess complex situations, make sound decisions within a legal framework, and ensure customers receive a fair and efficient service.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide front-line advice and assistance to customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
- Manage and maintain a personal caseload, ensuring cases are progressed promptly and effectively.
- Conduct thorough assessments of individual circumstances, applying relevant housing legislation and local policies.
- Develop and implement prevention plans to help customers retain or secure suitable accommodation.
- Liaise with landlords, support agencies, and other partners to identify solutions and negotiate positive outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and case notes in line with data protection and service standards.
- Deliver excellent customer service and act as a first point of contact for housing and homelessness queries.
- Experience of working in a housing, homelessness, or related advice environment.
- Understanding of housing legislation, particularly the Housing Act 1996 (Part VII) and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- Knowledge of welfare benefits, tenancy law, and housing rights.
- Experience of managing a diverse caseload and working to deadlines.
- Familiarity with partnership working across statutory and voluntary sectors.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to analyse complex information.
- Investigative approach with the ability to probe and understand individual circumstances.
- Ability to make informed decisions within a legal and procedural framework.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Competent in the use of IT systems and case management software.
- Commitment to providing a customer-focused and inclusive service.
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
