An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Housing Inspection Officer/ Housing Surveyor to lead and manage statutory electrical compliance across housing and corporate buildings for a forward-thinking Local Authority in Wigan.
THE ROLE
As a Housing Inspection Officer, you will take a lead role in coordinating and delivering statutory electrical inspection and testing programmes, ensuring full compliance with legislation, best practice, and internal policies.
The successful candidate will have proven experience working in a similar electrical compliance or housing inspection role within a housing, property, or local authority setting.
WORKING HOURS
37 hours per week
PERMANENT – could consider temp/ fixed term
RATE
£36,363 - £40,777 per year, plus benefits

THE ROLE
As a Housing Inspection Officer, you will take a lead role in coordinating and delivering statutory electrical inspection and testing programmes, ensuring full compliance with legislation, best practice, and internal policies.
- Lead the delivery of statutory electrical inspection and testing programmes, including Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs)
- Ensure compliance with legislation such as the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
- Act as the subject matter expert for electrical compliance, providing professional advice across services and to contractors
- Manage cyclical electrical maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and inspection programmes
- Monitor certification, documentation, and remedial works to ensure legal and safety standards are met
- Work collaboratively with Building Safety, Statutory Compliance, Planned Works, Voids, and Repairs teams
- Oversee contractor performance and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and compliantly
The successful candidate will have proven experience working in a similar electrical compliance or housing inspection role within a housing, property, or local authority setting.
- Time-served, qualified Electrician with Level 3 NVQ or equivalent
- HNC, ONC, or equivalent qualification in building safety, compliance, engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong knowledge of EICRs, periodic testing, and electrical remedial works
- Demonstrable understanding of statutory duties in social housing, including electrical safety standards and Awaab’s Law
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interpret electrical certification and coordinate contractors effectively
