SUMMARY
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Housing Policy Writer to join a Local Authority in Lancaster, supporting the development of a new Supported Housing Strategy for the Lancaster district. This is a 6 month fixed term role with potential to go fully permanent after 6 months.
THE ROLE
Working alongside the Principal Housing Strategy Officer, you will play a key role in researching, writing and developing Lancaster's new Supported Housing Strategy, working with providers, residents and key stakeholders to understand local housing needs and shape the final strategy.
  • Support the preparation and development of the new Supported Housing Strategy for Lancaster district.
  • Engage with Supported Housing Providers through online surveys and other methods to gather relevant service and provision data.
  • Collate, analyse and interpret information gathered from providers and existing housing research.
  • Engage with key stakeholders, commissioning leads and services supporting vulnerable groups across the district.
  • Plan and undertake resident engagement, including a combination of in-person interviews and surveys.
  • Contribute to the drafting of the strategy, key findings and supporting policy documentation.
  • Support consultation on the draft Supported Housing Strategy before its final adoption, ensuring feedback is appropriately considered and incorporated.
THE CANDIDATE
The successful Housing Policy Writer will have previous experience in housing policy, housing research or a closely related role, ideally with around three years' relevant experience. Candidates with graduate-level qualifications alongside suitable housing policy or research experience will also be considered. An understanding of supported housing and the needs of vulnerable groups would be highly beneficial.
  • Experience researching, analysing and writing housing policy, strategies, reports or similar documents.
  • Knowledge or understanding of the supported housing sector and the challenges facing vulnerable groups.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information and research findings into clear, accessible policy documents.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders, service providers, residents or other relevant groups to gather information and feedback.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage research, consultation and information-gathering activity effectively.
THE CONTRACT
Working Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, 37 hours per week
Length of Contract: This is a 6 month fixed term role with potential to go fully permanent after 6 months.
Rate: £38,000.00 to £46,000.00 per year, plus benefits
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working, with a mixture of remote and in-person working as required and subject to agreement with the Principal Housing Strategy Officer.
