Service Care Solutions are currently working with a local authority in Devon who are looking to appoint a Legal Officer to join their legal team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional with experience across civil and/or criminal legal matters to gain valuable experience working within a local authority environment. The successful candidate will support the Council across a varied caseload, including court proceedings, regulatory matters, debt recovery, housing and landlord & tenant issues.

Role Details
- Position: Legal Officer
- Location: Devon
- Contract: Temporary
- Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office
- Umbrella Rate: £18.00 – £20.23 per hour
- PAYE Rate (inc. holiday pay): Approximately £16.00 – £17.98 per hour
Key Responsibilities as a Legal Officer:
- Preparation of cases to be dealt with in the Civil Courts, including injunctions, proceedings for the recovery of debts and landlord and tenant matters. This will include arranging and participating in telephone conferences and providing representation at Court.
- Preparation of cases to be dealt with in the Criminal Courts, including prosecutions relating to environmental protection, housing standards, education welfare, anti-social behaviour, trading standards, fraud and other regulatory matters.
- Carrying out legal research and providing advice at the appropriate level to Council services.
- Experience working within a legal environment, preferably within a local authority or public sector setting.
- Experience dealing with civil and/or criminal legal matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage a varied caseload and work effectively to deadlines.
