Litigation Lawyer

Service Care Legal are looking for an experienced Litigation Lawyer to join a London Borough Council on a locum basis. The successful candidate will be required to act as an authorised person within Exchequer Services, handling a varied caseload across housing rent, service charge recovery, possession proceedings, and Housing Benefit appeals.

ROLE:                  Litigation Lawyer
LOCATION:         London
RATE:                   £50.44ph umbrella / £44.49ph PAYE inc. holiday pay / £39.70ph PAYE exc. holiday pay
CONTRACT:        36 hours per week, initial 3 months with possibility of extension

Please note that this role would require office attendance 2 days per week.

Key Responsibilities:
 

• Conduct litigation including issuing claims, reviewing applications, and managing cases through courts and tribunals
• Provide legal advice, support, and representation on housing income-related matters
• Manage a complex caseload independently, ensuring compliance with court and statutory deadlines
• Represent the Council in court and tribunal proceedings

Requirements:

• Qualified UK Solicitor (SRA), Barrister (BSB), or CILEX Lawyer with rights to conduct litigation
• Strong experience in local authority or similar complex litigation environments
• Knowledge of housing law (rent, possession, service charges, and ideally Housing Benefit appeals)
• Excellent understanding of court procedures and litigation practice
