About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Personal Advisor within Barnsley’s Future Directions Leaving Care Team, supporting care-experienced young people aged 16–25 as they transition into adulthood. The role involves empowering young people to develop independence, achieve positive outcomes, and navigate the challenges of leaving care.
Working within a stable, supportive, and long-standing team, you will advocate for young people, build meaningful relationships, and help them strive for safety, resilience, and aspiration. The service is committed to providing high-quality support through strong partnership work, excellent training, and continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with care-experienced young people aged 16–25, supporting their transition into independence.
- Develop, implement, and review Pathway Plans with achievable and timely goals.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with young people to understand their needs and aspirations.
- Advocate on behalf of young people and work collaboratively with partner agencies.
- Provide consistent support, guidance, and encouragement to promote positive outcomes.
- Apply strong assessment and analytical skills to understand each young person’s world.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure high standards of practice in line with service expectations.
- Participate in regular supervision and contribute to service development.
- Experience working with young people, ideally those who are care-experienced or vulnerable.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by care leavers transitioning into adulthood.
- Knowledge of Pathway Planning, safeguarding, and multi-agency working.
- Awareness of housing, education, training, employment, and financial support available to young people.
- Ability to work within statutory frameworks and follow local authority procedures.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate, empower, and advocate for young people.
- Emotional resilience and commitment to achieving positive outcomes.
- Strong assessment, planning, and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a supportive team culture.
- Organised, reliable, and able to prioritise effectively.
- Compassionate, caring, and committed to improving young people’s lives.
- Ability to work in a hybrid pattern, with 3 days onsite in Barnsley.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of young people.
- Willingness to undertake training and continuous professional development.
- Enthusiasm, passion, and dedication to supporting care-experienced young people.
