Personal Advisor (Care Leavers) – Peterborough Location: Sand Martin House, Peterborough (Hybrid – minimum 2 days in office per week)
Salary: £24 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: Flexible/Hybrid, with occasional out-of-hours work (flexi/TOIL policy applies)

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated Personal Advisor (PA) to work with care leavers and young people transitioning to adulthood. The role involves supporting young people to achieve independence, access opportunities, and attend appointments, whilst delivering services in line with departmental standards and statutory guidance.

The PA will be based at Sand Martin House, Peterborough, with a hybrid working model requiring a minimum of two office days per week. The role also includes visits to young people at home or in other settings. Our flexi-working policy allows TOIL accrual for out-of-hours work, though this generally does not include weekends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work towards achieving the objectives of the Services Business Plan.
  • Collaborate with partner organisations to assess, plan, and intervene with care leavers and their families.
  • Manage a caseload of care leavers in line with departmental policies, legislation, and regulations.
  • Use manual and computerised systems to maintain confidential case records and data.
  • Attend and contribute to reviews, meetings, and planning forums across various settings, including councils, hospitals, and custodial units.
  • Work flexibly, including lone working and occasional unsocial hours.
  • Apply safeguarding principles to all interactions with vulnerable young people and escalate concerns as required.
  • Deliver services within the framework of the Children Act Guidance and regulations, Volume 3: Planning Transitions to Adulthood for Care Leavers.
  • Assess financial needs of care leavers and support budgeting for accommodation and maintenance.
  • Undertake visits, assessments, reviews, and maintain records in accordance with policy.
  • Actively contribute to professional development of self and colleagues.
  • Ensure services consider diversity, equality, and social justice in all interactions.
  • Participate in supervision, appraisals, and practice observations.
  • Plan and record Pathway Planning meetings where required.
Person Specification We are looking for someone who:
  • Has experience working with care leavers, children, or young people in a social care or local authority context.
  • Can manage a caseload effectively while prioritising tasks and outcomes.
  • Has excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of safeguarding and the Children Act framework.
  • Can work flexibly and independently, including occasional out-of-hours work.
  • Is committed to promoting independence, social justice, and positive outcomes for young people.
