Service Care Legal is currently recruiting on behalf of a North London Council for an experienced Locum Planning Lawyer to join their legal services team on a 12-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Solicitor with strong local government planning experience seeking an assignment within a supportive and well-established team.
ROLE: Planning Lawyer
LOCATION: North London
CONTRACT: 12 Months, 36 hours per week
RATE: £50–£55ph umbrella / £48.46ph PAYE inc. holiday ay / £43.24ph PAYE exc. holiday pay
Please note that this role would require office attendance 2 days per week.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and representation on planning, highways, and associated regulatory matters.
- Draft and negotiate Section 106 agreements, Section 278 agreements, and related planning obligations.
- Advise planning committees, officers, and stakeholders on complex planning applications and enforcement issues.
- Conduct and manage planning appeals, judicial review matters, and enforcement proceedings as required.
Person Specification
- Be a qualified Solicitor of England and Wales (or equivalent qualification) with a current practising certificate.
- Have substantial experience handling planning law matters within a local authority setting.
- Demonstrate strong drafting and negotiation skills, particularly in relation to Section 106 agreements.
- Be able to manage a varied caseload independently and provide clear, pragmatic legal advice to non-legal colleagues.
