The role involves delivering planned lessons, supporting pupils’ learning, and maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment in the absence of the class teacher.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and effective lessons following the school’s plans and curriculum.
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
- Adapt to different year groups, subjects, and school settings when required.
- Ensure the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils at all times.
- Provide feedback on pupil progress to class teachers or senior leaders as needed.
- Maintain a calm, supportive atmosphere that promotes learning and pupil well-being.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
- Complete any required marking or short-term planning in line with school expectations.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Recent experience teaching in a primary school setting (EYFS/KS1/KS2).
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and confidently across different year groups.
- A secure understanding of the UK National Curriculum.
- Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to apply for one).
- Reliability, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
