A client within the Public Sector based in North East Lincolnshire is currently recruiting for a Principal Building Control Surveyor to join their Building Control Service as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority building control environment.
The Role
The key purpose of the role is to lead and deliver the local authority’s Building Control function, ensuring compliance with the Building Regulations, Building Act 1984, and associated legislation, while supporting service excellence, public safety, and customer satisfaction.

The Role
The key purpose of the role is to lead and deliver the local authority’s Building Control function, ensuring compliance with the Building Regulations, Building Act 1984, and associated legislation, while supporting service excellence, public safety, and customer satisfaction.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Leading and supervising a team of operational Building Control Surveyors to ensure statutory compliance and service delivery
- Managing and overseeing major and complex building control projects, including high-risk buildings
- Inspecting deposited plans and undertaking site inspections in line with Building Regulations and statutory timeframes
- Leading enforcement action, investigations into dangerous structures, demolitions, and unauthorised works
- Providing expert technical advice, acting as an expert witness where required, and supporting corporate and regeneration projects
To be considered for this role you will require the following essential qualifications:
- Degree-level qualification in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering, or equivalent
- Corporate Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CABE)
- Registration with the Building Safety Regulator (or working towards the appropriate class under the BICoF framework)
- Extensive experience working within a Local Authority Building Control service
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and team management skills
- Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations, enforcement processes, and the Building Act 1984
