A client within the Public Sector based in South Yorkshire is currently recruiting for a Principal Planning Officer to join their Planning Services team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority in a planning and development environment.
The Role
Key purpose of the role:
To deliver and implement corporate and directorate planning objectives by providing specialist planning advice, managing major and complex planning applications, and contributing to the development and implementation of planning policy.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Managing your own caseload of major and other planning applications in line with the Council’s scheme of delegation
• Providing clear and effective planning advice on Development Management and Planning Policy
• Developing statutory and non-statutory planning policy, including evidence gathering and preparation of Local Plan and Neighbourhood Plan documentation
• Leading pre-application discussions and negotiation with developers to improve proposals and ensure policy compliance
• Preparing and advising on CIL and Section 106 matters, including policy and implementation
• Acting as the Council’s expert witness in planning and enforcement appeals and public examinations
The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
• A degree-level qualification in Town Planning (or equivalent)
• Full membership of the RTPI (or evidence of working towards full membership)
• Previous local authority experience within planning policy and/or development management
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Strong ability to write and present reports on complex planning matters
• Experience of supervising or managing staff
• Excellent negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £45 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £36 per hour PAYE).
