A client within the Public Sector based in Kirklees is currently recruiting for a Principal Engineer to join their StreetScene Service as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a highway engineering environment.

The Role
Key purpose of the role is to use technical expertise to manage the delivery of a wide range of highway, transportation, and seasonal engineering projects. You will oversee planning, procurement, feasibility studies, financial management, and resource allocation, ensuring projects are delivered effectively and safely.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Managing delivery of engineering projects on and adjacent to the highway, including financial account oversight.
• Leading and managing the performance of site-based staff across planned, reactive, drainage, street lighting and seasonal works.
• Implementing value-for-money and innovative delivery solutions to meet technical and project objectives.
• Attending progress meetings, liaising with the public and local Councillors.
• Managing operational service delivery through periods of change and challenging priorities.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant safety, legislative and regulatory requirements.

The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
• A Degree or Master’s in Civil Engineering or equivalent, or proven ability to work at that level.
• Extensive experience in managing all stages of scheme construction with strong knowledge of Health & Safety, CDM regulations, risk management and related legislation.
• Proven experience managing staff and operational service delivery within a local authority engineering environment.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and GIS mapping systems, with understanding of AutoCAD.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to demonstrate a proactive approach to negotiation, decision making, and performance management.

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £27 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £21 per hour PAYE).
