Probation Service Officer – Wood Green Crown Court
Location: Wood Green Crown Court, London
Contract: Temporary (Initially 3 months with strong likelihood of extension)
Hours: Full Time – 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Pay: £25.95 per hour (Umbrella/Limited Company)
Equivalent PAYE Rate: Approximately £21.60 per hour (depending on payroll provider and holiday pay arrangement)
The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Probation Service Officer (PSO) to join the Probation Service based at Wood Green Crown Court. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable court-based experience while supporting the delivery of justice and public protection.
This is an office-based role, and successful candidates must be able to work from Wood Green Crown Court throughout the assignment.
The initial contract is for 3 months, with a strong possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare high-quality court reports, including Standard Delivery Reports (SDRs) and other assessments as required.
- Conduct interviews with service users and gather relevant information to support sentencing recommendations.
- Liaise with magistrates, judges, legal representatives, police and partner agencies.
- Assess risk, identify safeguarding concerns and make appropriate recommendations.
- Maintain accurate and timely case records using probation case management systems.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with Ministry of Justice and Probation Service standards.
- Contribute to effective public protection and rehabilitation outcomes.
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- Previous experience working as a Probation Service Officer, Probation Officer, or within a similar criminal justice environment.
- Experience preparing court reports or offender assessments.
- Excellent written communication and report writing skills.
- The ability to manage a busy workload and meet strict court deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and confidence working with vulnerable and challenging individuals.
- A good understanding of risk assessment and offender management principles.
- Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to undergo the relevant checks).
