Property Inspector (Mechanical) – Public BuildingsWe are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established local authority for an experienced Property Inspector (Mechanical) to join their Public Buildings team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical professional who enjoys a varied role combining site inspections, contractor management, compliance, and maintenance oversight across a diverse portfolio of public buildings.
Working as part of a dedicated property team, you will play a key role in ensuring mechanical plant and equipment are safe, compliant, and maintained to the highest standards, helping to deliver essential services to the local community.

As Property Inspector (Mechanical), your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out inspections across public buildings to assess the condition and compliance of mechanical plant and equipment.
- Overseeing repairs and planned maintenance for commercial heating, ventilation, and associated mechanical systems.
- Monitoring statutory and mandatory maintenance records to ensure compliance with current legislation.
- Issuing instructions and work orders to mechanical term contractors.
- Supporting the management and performance monitoring of external contractors.
- Liaising with building managers, responsible persons, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Attending meetings and contributing technical advice to support maintenance planning and service delivery.
- Maintaining accurate records using Microsoft Office and other IT systems.
Essential Requirements
- SVQ/NVQ Level 3 in Commercial Boiler Installation, Maintenance and/or Controls, or equivalent accredited training demonstrating competence in boiler operation, maintenance and safety.
- Proven experience working with commercial heating systems.
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Confident using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and other IT systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Ability to undertake site inspections across multiple locations.
- CSCS Card.
- Asbestos Awareness certification.
- Previous experience working within a Local Authority or public sector environment.
- Experience working on construction or refurbishment projects.
- Knowledge of fire suppression systems.
- Immediate start available.
- Contract runs until 31 March 2027.
- Successful candidates will be required to undergo a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check.
