Property Solicitor

Service Care Legal are partnering with a respected Local Authority in Sussex to recruit an experienced Property Solicitor on a contract basis. The successful candidate will support the Council across a broad range of property matters, working largely remotely with the flexibility of only one weekly office day.
 
ROLE:                  Property Solicitor
RATE:                   DOE
LOCATION:          Sussex (1 day per week in office / remainder remote)
CONTRACT:        6 months with possibility of extension, 36 hours per week

Key Responsibilities 

• Provide legal advice, representation, and assistance across the Council, including attendance at public and statutory meetings where required.
• Act as a trusted adviser on property matters such as acquisitions, disposals, licences, and landlord/tenant issues, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
• Negotiate, draft, and complete property transactions, contributing to advice on deal structures, Assets of Community Value, best value considerations, and Subsidy Control.
• Manage an ongoing property-focused caseload, support the delivery of a high-quality legal service, and contribute to the Legal Team’s Service Plan and the Council’s Corporate Plan.

Person Specification 

• Qualified Solicitor (or Barrister/Chartered Legal Executive) with a minimum of 5 years PQE.
• Strong working knowledge of property law, ideally within a Local Authority or public-sector environment.
• Experience working within a legal team or practice (Local Authority experience desirable).
• Proven background handling property transactions and advising on related matters.
