What you’ll do
- Process and respond to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, ensuring legal compliance.
- Assess and manage Subject Access Requests (SARs) under the Data Protection Act and GDPR, making proportionate disclosure decisions.
- Analyse and action requests for police information from external bodies such as regulatory authorities.
- Redact and prepare audio-visual material (BWV/CCTV) for lawful disclosure.
- Advise and support colleagues and stakeholders on FOI, GDPR, and data protection issues.
- Contribute to proactive publication initiatives and continuous improvement in public access processes.
- Support training and peer review within the Public Access team.
- Proven experience in information rights, data protection, or an information management role.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound, risk-based decisions.
- High attention to detail with the ability to apply complex legal frameworks.
- Strong communication skills, able to explain legal issues in plain language to a range of audiences.
- Ability to manage a varied and busy caseload independently.
- Confidence in influencing others and finding pragmatic solutions.
