Pay Rate: £16.70 per hour (Umbrella) / £13.26 per hour (PAYE)

About the Role

Reading Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Childcare Practitioner to support children and young people in a residential care setting. This role involves providing high-quality care, promoting positive outcomes, and supporting children’s emotional, social, and developmental needs.

You will work as part of a team to create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where children can thrive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support children in their daily routines, promoting independence and wellbeing

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children at all times

  • Support emotional, behavioural, and social development

  • Follow care plans, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals

  • Maintain accurate records and reports

Requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare / Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

  • Registered and subscribed to the DBS Update Service

  • Knowledge of good practice in residential childcare settings

  • Experience working with children

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Working Pattern This role operates on a shift basis, including:

  • 7:00am – 3:00pm

  • 2:00pm – 10:00pm

  • Alternate weekend working required
