Salary: £250 per day
Location: Halifax-  Calderdale (hybrid working – office attendance required one day per week)

Hours: Full-time, office-based with flexibility for occasional evening meetings
About the Role
Calderdale Council is seeking to recruit an SEN Casework Officer to provide temporary agency cover within the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Team. The role is primarily desk-based, with hybrid working arrangements. The post holder will support the Local Authority in fulfilling statutory duties under the Children and Families Act, specifically in relation to Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans.
The officer will play a key role in carrying out statutory duties for annual reviews of EHC plans, ensuring that children and young people with SEN receive appropriate support to achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

• Carry out statutory duties in relation to annual reviews of EHC plans.
• Work closely with parents, schools, health professionals, social care, and other stakeholders to ensure EHC plans are accurate and appropriate.
• Interpret and action information from EHCP reviews to update Outcomes and Provision.
• Write and amend sections of EHC plans based on information gathered during assessments.
• Support SEN Officers in coordinating phase transfer processes (Nursery to Reception, Year 2–3, Year 6–7, Year 11–Post 16).
• Contribute to service monitoring, evaluation, and project-based activities.
• Provide flexible input into national and local initiatives as required.

Experience & Knowledge

• Demonstrable knowledge of SEN and experience in a similar demanding environment.
• Up-to-date knowledge of SEN legislation, statutory guidance, and the Code of Practice.
• Experience working with families, children, and young people.
• Strong understanding of multi-agency working, including schools, colleges, and educational settings.
• Experience of working in a customer-focused role.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
• Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office and case management systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach.

Qualifications

• GCSE Grade C / Level 2 or above in Maths and English (or demonstrable equivalent experience).

Other Requirements

• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
• Willingness to attend occasional evening meetings to accommodate parent/carer participation.
• Enhanced DBS check required.
• Familiarity with GDPR and data protection responsibilities.
