1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Long-Term
We are currently seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term position within a primary school. This role will involve providing consistent support to a pupil with additional needs, with a strong focus on phonics and early reading development.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity within one school, offering stability and the chance to build a strong working relationship with both the pupil and staff team.

We are currently seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term position within a primary school. This role will involve providing consistent support to a pupil with additional needs, with a strong focus on phonics and early reading development.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity within one school, offering stability and the chance to build a strong working relationship with both the pupil and staff team.
Role responsibilities include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs
- Supporting phonics learning using structured approaches (such as daily phonics sessions)
- Assisting with early reading, writing, and literacy development
- Adapting classroom activities to suit the pupil’s individual learning needs
- Supporting the pupil’s attention, engagement, and behaviour during lessons
- Working closely with the class teacher to deliver targeted interventions
- Helping to implement strategies from EHCPs or support plans
- Monitoring progress, particularly in phonics and reading development
- Experience working with children with SEN, particularly in a primary setting
- Knowledge or experience of phonics programmes (e.g. Read Write Inc, Letters and Sounds, or similar)
- A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- A proactive and flexible attitude
- An Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
