SEND Keyworker
Cheshire East Council

We’re currently recruiting for a SEND Keyworker to join Cheshire East Council’s SEND Team. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they receive the right support and provision to achieve positive outcomes.

Role Overview As a SEND Keyworker, you will play a key role in the statutory assessment, development, and ongoing review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). You’ll manage a caseload of children and young people, working closely with families, schools, and professionals to ensure plans are outcome-focused and truly person-centred.

This position involves coordinating multi-agency meetings, analysing professional reports, and ensuring that every child’s needs are met through effective, inclusive education and care planning. You’ll also represent the Local Authority at mediation or tribunal where necessary, offering expert guidance and advice to families and educational settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the main point of contact and Named Officer for children and young people with EHCPs within your caseload.

  • Coordinate and chair multi-agency meetings to ensure co-production of EHCPs.

  • Provide clear, outcome-based recommendations following assessment of evidence and reports.

  • Support and advise parents, carers, and young people on SEND procedures and available support.

  • Liaise with education, health, and social care providers to secure appropriate placements.

  • Monitor progress against EHCP outcomes and ensure support is reviewed and adjusted as needed.

  • Represent the Local Authority at mediation and tribunal hearings.

  • Work collaboratively within the SEND team to promote inclusion and best practice across Cheshire East.

About You You’ll be a confident communicator, highly organised, and passionate about improving outcomes for children with SEND. You’ll bring excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with families and professionals.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Education, Social Work, Health, or a related field.

  • Proven experience working with children and young people with SEND.

  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory assessment processes.

  • Experience of multi-agency and partnership working.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Confident using IT systems including Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to travel throughout Cheshire East.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate or specialist qualification in SEND or careers guidance.

  • Experience leading or supervising a team.

  • Knowledge of post-16 SEND provision.

How to Apply If you’re passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND to achieve their potential, we’d love to hear from you.
