Job Description
Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in Somerset for a Senior Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will be required to perform a range of advanced professional accounting activities, and provide financial advice and guidance, to support in delivering a comprehensive accounting and advisory service to budget holders, project managers and decision makers. 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert financial advice and guidance to senior leaders and stakeholders, ensuring informed decision-making on financial implications.
• Lead on the preparation and management of revenue and/or capital budgets, aligning financial planning with strategic objectives
• Monitor financial performance, identifying risks and variances, and working collaboratively to implement solutions
• Prepare statutory accounts and financial reports, including presenting to committees and governance bodies
• Review legislative changes and evaluate the impact on financial policies, guidelines and protocols.

Candidate Criteria

• Fully qualified accountant
• Significant experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and financial analysis within a complex organisation
• Strong knowledge of public sector finance, legislation, and regulatory requirements
• Proven ability to influence, communicate, and build relationships with senior stakeholders
