A client within the Public Sector based in Staffordshire is currently recruiting for a Senior Planning Officer (Major Projects) to join their Planning Services team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority planning environment.
The Role
The key purpose of this role is to provide professional planning services in accordance with the City Council’s business needs, focusing on supporting major and more complex developments through the planning process.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Providing expert advice on planning law, policy, and guidance in line with best practice and Council objectives.
• Assessing and recommending decisions on complex major planning applications and associated legislation.
• Supporting regeneration projects and investment initiatives, providing professional planning input.
• Advising senior officers on development management considerations for major redevelopment opportunities.
• Acting as an expert professional witness at public inquiries, hearings, or examinations.
• Preparing and presenting reports to Council committees and regional planning groups.
• Liaising with developers, landowners, and other key stakeholders to facilitate high-quality sustainable development.
The Candidate To be considered for this role you will require:
• A relevant degree in planning or a related subject.
• Eligibility for Chartered Membership of the RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute).
• Proven experience managing and determining major or complex planning applications within a local authority setting.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Strong understanding of development management systems and planning policy.
• Ability to work collaboratively with senior officers, Members, developers, and the public.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £48 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £40 per hour PAYE).
