A client within the Public Sector based in West Yorkshire is currently recruiting for a Senior Planning Officer to join their Local Plan Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority planning policy environment.

The Role
Key purpose of the role:
To contribute to and prepare a range of planning policy documents to maintain an up-to-date and effective Local Plan for the District, providing a sustainable development strategy that addresses the area’s priorities and meets statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Preparing and contributing to Local Plan Documents, Supplementary Planning Documents, and other planning information.
• Acting as an expert witness for the Council at Examinations in Public and Inquiries.
• Providing planning policy advice and guidance to colleagues, elected members, partners, and the public.
• Leading on specific planning policy areas such as housing, employment, or environment.
• Supporting the implementation and monitoring of the Local Plan, including performance data and GIS systems.
• Supporting neighbourhood planning and contributing to regional planning initiatives within the Leeds City Region.

The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
• A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• Eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent professional body.
• Significant post-qualification experience in planning policy and Local Plan preparation within a local authority.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Strong understanding of planning legislation and Government policy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft technical reports and present at hearings.
• Experience in data management, GIS systems, and evidence-based policy making.

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such is offering £48 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £40 per hour PAYE).
