Senior Residential Care Officer
Salary: £35,438 - £39,319 - Depending on experience and qualifications

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time (37 hours)
About the Role: This is a vital role supporting children and young people within Doncaster’s residential homes. You will be part of a senior team that creates a nurturing, safe, and structured environment where young people can thrive. With responsibilities that include shift leadership, supervision, and mentoring of staff, you will help drive high standards of care and consistency across the service.
Key Responsibilities
• Act as shift leader and senior practitioner, supporting and mentoring staff during shifts.
• Support the emotional, social, and physical development of young people in care.
• Work under the guidance of the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager, with delegated responsibilities.
• Help maintain a positive and therapeutic home environment, aligned with the home's Statement of Purpose.
• Undertake sleep-in shifts (average 4/month), paid at an additional £40.77 per shift.
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and advocacy for all children and young people.
• Be part of a consistent rota including mornings, afternoons, weekends, and bank holidays.
• Complete and participate in mandatory training, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).
• Contribute to staff development, behaviour management, and high-quality care practices.
What We’re Looking For
• Qualified with Level 3 TQUK Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
• Minimum 12 months' experience working in a residential children’s home.
• Resilience and flexibility to work unsocial hours, weekends, and sleep-in shifts.
• Commitment to safeguarding and delivering excellent standards of care.
• Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
• Passion for making a difference in the lives of children with complex needs.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong leadership and supervisory abilities.
• Ability to manage challenging behaviours in a calm and therapeutic way.
• Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
• Capacity to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Rota & Hours
• Morning shifts: 7am – 3pm
• Afternoon shifts: 2pm – 10pm
• Afternoon + sleep-in: 2pm – 11pm, followed by 7am – 2pm next day
• Rota includes 2 weekends off in every 4-week cycle
• 9 days off per 4-week rota
• Overtime paid at time and a quarter after 37 hours
Additional Benefits
• £40.77 per sleep-in shift (approx. £2,000 per year based on average 4/month)
• 8.5% unsocial hours allowance included in base salary
• South Yorkshire Pension Authority: employer contribution of £5,552 – £6,160 annually
• Opportunities to progress to Level 5 TQUK Diploma in Leadership & Management
