Job Description
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Settlements Accountant to join a leading organisation operating at the forefront of the UK’s energy and sustainability transition.

This is a key role within the finance function, responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient execution of financial settlements across multiple complex schemes. The position offers variety, ownership, and the opportunity to play a vital part in supporting major national energy initiatives.

Initially, you’ll travel to London once a week (expenses covered) for onboarding and training. Thereafter, travel will reduce to once per month. Flexible working options are available, including compressed hours (e.g., 9-day fortnight).

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily settlement activities, including payments, reconciliations, and high-value transaction approvals.
  • Maintain robust internal controls and ensure all processes adhere to regulatory and policy standards.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and settlement-related reporting.
  • Oversee credit cover processes, drawdowns, and returns, ensuring accurate records.
  • Monitor and forecast settlement costs, assisting with budgets and variance analysis.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements, audits, and Treasury forecasting.
  • Drive automation and process improvement initiatives, collaborating with finance and data teams.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for finance-related settlement issues, ensuring seamless stakeholder communication.
  • Train and coach junior staff where required.
Candidate Criteria
Essential:
  • Extensive experience in treasury, banking, or settlements.
  • Part or fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, ICAS, CIPFA, or equivalent).
  • Strong technical accounting skills, including payments, reconciliations, and month-end reporting.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.
  • Ability to handle and analyse large data sets accurately.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Desirable:
  • Understanding of CfD, CM, or similar renewable energy schemes.
  • Knowledge of financial markets and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience developing and managing internal controls.
  • Advanced Excel or Power Query capability.
  • Exposure to automation or process improvement projects.
