We are currently recruiting on behalf nof a London-based local authority to recruit an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer for an exciting temporary opportunity within its engineering and transport services.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled traffic and highways professional to take responsibility for the delivery of a range of engineering projects and technical functions, working closely with senior colleagues and contributing to the effective delivery of high-quality schemes and services.
Reporting to the Principal Traffic Engineer, you will be responsible for the effective execution of allocated engineering projects, functions and areas of work, ensuring that all activities are delivered in line with relevant contracts, agreements, statutory requirements and professional standards.
You will take responsibility for your own workload and, where appropriate, provide support and supervision to junior staff and subcontractors. The role will involve a combination of technical engineering, project delivery, contract administration, financial monitoring, consultation and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver allocated traffic and engineering projects and workstreams effectively and in accordance with agreed requirements.
- Prepare financial estimates, statistics and information relating to projects, areas of work and payment claims.
- Monitor project progress, expenditure and performance against agreed budgets and timescales.
- Assist with the preparation of contracts, specifications, Bills of Quantities, Schedules of Rates and other tender documentation.
- Examine and interpret technical reports, surveys and other engineering information.
- Design and develop less complex engineering schemes and produce associated drawings and technical documentation.
- Undertake and analyse local consultation and contribute to the selection of appropriate methods and materials.
- Review subcontractor tenders and quotations and make recommendations for acceptance.
- Ensure that contractual, quality, performance, budgetary and statutory requirements are achieved.
- Supervise and support junior staff and contribute to on-the-job training where required.
- Prepare and present reports relating to your area of responsibility.
- Respond to correspondence, queries and complaints in accordance with agreed procedures.
- Attend meetings with members of the public and other stakeholders as required.
- Maintain a strong focus on customer care, equal opportunities, environmental responsibility and health and safety.
You will ideally have experience in:
- Traffic and highways engineering projects.
- Preparing technical specifications and tender documentation.
- Engineering design, drawings and the interpretation of surveys and technical reports.
- Contract administration and monitoring project performance.
- Preparing financial estimates and monitoring expenditure.
- Stakeholder engagement and public consultation.
- Supervising or supporting junior staff and subcontractors.
