About the Role As a Social Work Assistant, you will work alongside qualified Social Workers and other professionals to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people across Birmingham. You will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, child-centred services, helping families build on their strengths while addressing risks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting Social Workers with assessments, interventions and care planning.
- Undertaking direct work with children, young people and their families in homes, schools and community settings.
- Assisting in the preparation of reports, chronologies, case notes and other documentation for meetings, court or statutory reviews.
- Transporting children or families safely to meetings, appointments or contact sessions, ensuring their wellbeing at all times.
- Building positive and professional relationships with children, families, carers, and partner agencies.
- Contributing to team discussions, case conferences, strategy meetings and reviews.
- Maintaining accurate records in line with policies and safeguarding procedures.
- Experienced in supporting vulnerable children, young people or families in social care, education, youth work, early help, residential, or similar settings.
- Knowledgeable about safeguarding, child development, and relevant legislation/guidance (e.g. Working Together to Safeguard Children).
- Organised and proactive, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to build trust, show empathy and remain resilient under pressure.
- Confident working independently as well as part of a busy, multi-agency team.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes (this role involves travelling across Birmingham).
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends where required.
