About the Role
Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking a dedicated Social Work Assistant to support our social workers in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable children and young people across the city. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of children and families, while working as part of a committed, supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake an allocated casework role, providing practical day-to-day support to children and families.

  • Collect, record, and analyse information accurately to support statutory assessments and interventions.

  • Liaise and work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to achieve the best outcomes for children.

  • Maintain accurate case records and contribute to reports in line with statutory and organisational requirements.

  • Take personal responsibility for professional development and reflective practice.

  • Work as part of a team to support overall service goals and participate in team meetings and reviews.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Experience of working with children and/or families in a care or support setting.

  • Ability to liaise with agencies to access appropriate support for children and families.

  • Basic knowledge of social work practice and understanding of the legislative framework for working with children.

  • Ability to work professionally with people experiencing challenging personal circumstances.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence in English.

  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and in partnership with other agencies.

  • Ability to accurately record information and maintain high-quality documentation.

  • Understanding of diversity, social disadvantage, and the importance of treating all people fairly and respectfully.
