Service Care Solutions are delighted to recruit for an exciting opportunity with Social Security Scotland’s Appeals Branch, a specialist team responsible for advising on and managing appeals before the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland and the Upper Tribunal for Scotland.

Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Solicitor Role

• Provide legal advice on the preparation and drafting of appeal responses.
• Advise on procedural matters across First-tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal appeals.
• Review Tribunal decisions and advise on the merits of pursuing appeals to the Upper Tribunal.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using the case management system.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Understanding of public law litigation, or willingness to develop skills in this area.
• Ability to conduct strong legal analysis using multiple sources of information and data.
• Clear and effective communication of complex legal issues within a broader strategic context.
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality legal advice on complex matters.

Working Pattern & Location

• Based in Victoria Quay, Edinburgh.
• Hybrid working – 2 days per week in the office.
• Flexible working within the needs of the Unit.

Additional Information:

• Salary: Grade C1 – starting salary £60,010+ (negotiable)
• Contract Length: 6 months, with potential 6-month extension
• Ltd Day Rate: £314.90
• PAYE Rate (including holiday pay): £267.31
