Street Lighting Engineer
Location: Manchester
Salary: £46,142 per annum / £25.35 per hour PAYE
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Additional Payment: Casual Car User Allowance
Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Street Lighting Engineer to join a highways team in Manchester on a Full-time basis.
This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Engineer to play a key role in the delivery, maintenance and development of the city's street lighting infrastructure.
The successful candidate will have relevant experience within street lighting, highways or a related engineering environment and will be responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe and sustainable street lighting services across the city.
The Role
You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of working within a similar engineering or street lighting position.
Ideally, you will have experience in:
Ideally, you will hold an HNC, HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Street Lighting or a relevant discipline, or an equivalent qualification.
Candidates who are currently working towards an appropriate qualification will also be considered where they can demonstrate suitable relevant experience.
Driving Licence
The successful candidate should hold a full, clean UK driving licence as occasional driving may be required in accordance with council regulations.
This is a designated Casual Car User position. Journeys by car may be required on an occasional basis, although driving is not considered essential to the role. Where business mileage is undertaken, the successful candidate will need to provide their own vehicle, hold the appropriate documentation and will receive a mileage allowance for business use.

The Role
- Manage and contribute to a range of street lighting projects and programmes.
- Support the design, maintenance and improvement of street lighting infrastructure.
- Provide technical engineering advice relating to street lighting assets and services.
- Undertake inspections, assessments and surveys of street lighting infrastructure.
- Assist with the development and implementation of street lighting maintenance programmes.
- Monitor and manage works undertaken by contractors and external service providers.
- Ensure street lighting works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant standards and specifications.
- Review technical information, drawings, reports and other engineering documentation.
- Liaise with contractors, consultants, internal teams and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered effectively.
- Support the management and maintenance of accurate street lighting asset records and data.
- Assist with the investigation and resolution of technical issues and lighting defects.
- Manage your own workload effectively, working with minimal day-to-day supervision.
- Contribute to the continued improvement of highway and street lighting services across Manchester.
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant health and safety requirements and statutory obligations.
You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of working within a similar engineering or street lighting position.
Ideally, you will have experience in:
- Street lighting design, maintenance and inspection.
- Highway or public realm infrastructure.
- Street lighting asset management.
- Managing or monitoring contractors and external service providers.
- Delivering engineering projects and programmes.
- Interpreting technical drawings, specifications and engineering information.
- Working within a Local Authority, consultancy or private sector environment.
- Managing your own workload and working to deadlines.
- Providing technical advice to colleagues and stakeholders.
