About the Role As a Transport Assessor, you will:

  • Assess eligibility and deliver home-to-school transport services, including for children with Special Educational Needs.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and manage data relating to service users.
  • Liaise with parents, schools, colleges, colleagues, and external contractors to ensure transport services meet operational standards.
  • Support appeals processes, undertake risk assessments, and develop travel plans to continuously improve service quality.
  • Provide guidance on transport arrangements, specialist equipment, and Health & Safety compliance.
  • Work collaboratively to resolve operational challenges and contribute to efficiency improvements.
You will be responsible for maintaining positive working relationships and promoting high-quality, customer-focused services in line with Council policies and legislation.

What We’re Looking For Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant area, or demonstrable experience in transport assessment or service delivery.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and analytical abilities to interpret reports.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with service users, parents, colleagues, and external bodies.
  • Ability to work independently, manage your workload, and thrive in a busy, pressurised environment.
  • Full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle to travel across the County.
Desirable:

  • Risk assessment qualifications (e.g., British Safety Council Level 2).
  • Experience in transport, assessment, or procurement environments.
  • Confidence in dealing with challenging conversations and negotiation with partners.
  • Familiarity with passenger transport operational issues and Health & Safety risk assessments.
Why Join Us?
  • Play a key role in delivering safe and effective transport services that benefit children and the wider community.
  • Work within a supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Opportunities for professional development and training.
  • Be part of an inclusive Council that actively supports equality, diversity, and reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010.
If you are proactive, empathetic, and committed to improving transport services, we want to hear from you!
