About the Role Service Care Solutions are recruiting for a Temporary Waste Collection Operative to join a dedicated and hardworking team responsible for delivering efficient waste and recycling collection services across local communities in Barnsley.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong work ethic, good team spirit, and a commitment to providing a clean and safe environment for residents. You will be working outdoors in all weather conditions as part of a crew, helping to ensure waste and recycling collections are completed to a high standard and on time.


Key Responsibilities

• Work as part of a refuse and recycling collection team, ensuring scheduled collections are completed safely and efficiently.
• Load refuse and recycling vehicles, collecting waste from residential and commercial properties.
• Operate bin lifts and other mechanical equipment safely after training.
• Assist the driver in navigating routes and ensuring access to collection points.
• Return containers to correct collection points after emptying.
• Report any issues, such as missed collections, damaged bins, or access problems, to your supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness of vehicles and equipment, performing basic safety checks as required.
• Follow all Health and Safety regulations, wearing PPE at all times and adhering to manual handling procedures.
• Engage courteously with members of the public and represent the council/organisation in a professional manner.
• Assist with street cleaning, litter picking, and other waste-related duties when required.

Requirements

• Previous experience in waste collection, refuse, recycling, or grounds maintenance is desirable.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift heavy bins/containers throughout the day.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Awareness of Health and Safety procedures and safe working practices.
• Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and overtime when required.
• Full UK driving licence preferred (especially if willing to drive collection vehicles), but not essential for loaders.
