Year 1 Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Preston)
Start: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, long-term (potential for permanent placement)
We are recruiting an enthusiastic and supportive Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a friendly, community-focused primary school in the Preston area. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys early literacy, building routines, and helping children transition confidently from EYFS into KS1.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils in a Year 1 class with daily learning activities
- Leading small-group interventions in phonics, reading, writing and early maths
- Providing 1:1 support for children who may need additional guidance
- Assisting the class teacher with lesson preparation and classroom organisation
- Helping to maintain positive behaviour and consistent routines
- Encouraging independence, confidence and engagement in learning
- Contributing to a safe, calm and nurturing classroom environment
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience supporting KS1 or EYFS pupils
- Strong understanding of early phonics
- A patient, proactive and caring approach
- Ability to follow instructions while using initiative where needed
- Good communication skills and a team-focused attitude
- A valid DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
