Rate:
  • PAYE: £23.50 per hour

  • Limited/Umbrella: £31.22 per hour
    IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Role Purpose To manage a caseload of youth justice cases, including out-of-court disposals and statutory court orders, in line with the National Standards for Youth Justice and the HMIP Inspection Framework. Using the Child First, Offender Second approach, the post holder will provide effective, evidence-based interventions and support to children and young people, enabling them to complete their disposals/orders and work towards a crime-free life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied caseload of children and young people subject to youth justice interventions.

  • Apply the Child First, Offender Second approach to all casework, focusing on positive outcomes and long-term desistance from crime.

  • Use AssetPlus as the primary assessment and planning tool, ensuring a trauma-informed approach that addresses desistance factors.

  • Build effective relationships and maintain regular communication with children, young people, their families, and relevant internal/external partners.

  • Prepare high-quality reports for court (Pre-Sentence Reports, Stand-Down Reports) and for Referral Order Panels and other forums as required.

  • Represent the Youth Justice, Targeted Prevention & Support Service (YJTPS) in court proceedings, presenting evidence and making recommendations.

  • Deliver group and/or individual interventions to reduce the risk of offending, reoffending, and disengagement from education, employment, or training.

  • Ensure equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice in all aspects of service delivery.

  • Analyse assessment information to design and deliver interventions that keep the child or young person safe and safeguard others.

Person Specification Essential Qualifications & Registration

  • Qualified Social Worker (registered with Social Work England).

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience working within a youth justice setting.

  • Case management experience of out-of-court disposals and statutory court orders.

  • Skilled in using AssetPlus for assessment and intervention planning.

  • Experience in preparing and presenting court reports.

  • Track record of working with children and young people at risk of offending or reoffending.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of the National Standards for Youth Justice and HMIP Inspection Framework.

  • Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practice and desistance theory.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with partner agencies and within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and equality of opportunity.

Other Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS check.

  • Willingness to work flexibly in line with service needs.
