The World's Biggest Coffee Morning

Last Friday saw Service Care Solutions take part in the world’s biggest coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity close to many of our hearts.

One of my colleagues sadly lost her Mum to lung cancer a few years ago and she told me what a great support Macmillan were to her and her family. This took the form of having a dedicated Macmillan nurse that visited the house on a number of occasions. Not only did the charity arrange counselling for my colleague, who was actually her mother's full time carer until she passed away, but they arranged visits to East Lancashire Hospice for complementary therapies and even funded a new shower for the family, as funds were understandably tight towards the end. Hearing what great work they do made us determined to make our coffee morning a success!

Members of the Service Care family baked their hearts out for this event and we had some truly wonderful cakes and treats to show for all of their efforts. I too tried my hand at crafting cupcakes, however I am ashamed to say they were a disaster. Yes, hours of hard work and flawless execution came to nothing when I was let down by my oven. I know they say a bad workman (person) always blames their tools, however I have made many successful batches cakes and cupcakes in my time and can only put this fiasco down to poor tools, i.e. my oven! Needless to say I bought some fantastic cupcakes at the local supermarket and passed them off as my own!

My own tragedy aside, the rest of the treats brought in for the company were fantastic. The standard of baked goods was phenomenal and we certainly ate plenty - all in aid of charity of course. We had Oreo cheesecake, brownies, rocky road and many more. These were all sampled by very happy staff across the office. Cakes for breakfast, brunch and dinner were a real treat, but contributing to the fantastic work Macmillan Cancer Support does felt even better.

We had a great day and raised £130 for the charity. We will be partaking next year without a doubt, and hopefully every year after that!
