Bridge and Structures Engineer

Job Description

A client within the Public Sector based in South Yorkshire is currently recruiting for a Bridge and Structures Engineer to join their Transportation Infrastructure team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a highways and structures engineering environment.

The Role
Key purpose of the role is to be responsible for delivering a high-quality, efficient, and customer-focused transportation infrastructure service. You will lead on the management of highway structures, develop and implement complex capital schemes, and ensure compliance with technical standards, safety legislation, and asset management principles.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Managing the Council’s highway structure assets including inspections, maintenance programmes, and funding bids
• Leading the delivery of structural and capital schemes within the Transportation Capital Investment Programme
• Preparing cost estimates, technical reports, drawings, and contract documentation
• Acting as CDM principal designer or project manager as required
• Supervising contractors and technical staff, ensuring safe and quality delivery of site works
• Representing the service at Council meetings, stakeholder forums, and working groups

The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) via ICE or IStructE
• Substantial experience as a senior engineer in highways/transportation infrastructure
• Proven experience managing capital programmes and leading multidisciplinary teams
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Practical knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS, and MapInfo
• Familiarity with DMRB, CoP for Highway Infrastructure, and CDM Regulations
• Excellent budget management and stakeholder engagement skills

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £50 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £40 per hour PAYE).
