Job Title: Project & Capital Accountant
Location: Hybrid (1–2 days/week in-office, Wednesdays required)
Contract: Initial Contract – Potential for Extension
Rate: £31.20 PAYE / £42.16 Umbrella
Hours: Full-time

About the Role:
We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Project & Capital Accountant to join a dynamic policing organisation. This hybrid role requires a strategic thinker with excellent Excel skills and a solid background in capital and project accounting. You’ll play a vital part in financial decision-making, long-term capital planning, and governance reporting across a broad portfolio of critical projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on project financial reporting and risk analysis for governance boards and business units

  • Maintain financial forecasting and capital accounting compliance across force-wide projects

  • Own the update and compliance of the fixed asset register

  • Drive the Medium Term Capital Plan (MTCP) ensuring alignment with force strategic objectives

  • Take a key role in external audits relating to capital and project spend

  • Ensure all financial business cases are audit-ready and compliant

  • Provide financial oversight in procurement processes to ensure value for money

  • Support Project Managers and liaise closely with IT departments and change leaders

Requirements:
CCAB or ACCA Qualified (or equivalent experience)
Extensive experience in capital/project accounting and scenario-based forecasting
Strong governance, business partnering, and stakeholder engagement skills
Proficient in presenting complex financial data clearly
Advanced Excel and systems knowledge
Experience working with IT departments and project managers is essential

Working Arrangement:

  • Hybrid: 1–2 days in the office per week (Wednesday mandatory)

  • Full office attendance required during initial onboarding period

  • Flexible hours and strong support available during ramp-up
