Chief Lawyer

Job Description

Service Care Legal are currently working alongside a Local Authority, based in Yorkshire, which is in need of a Chief Lawyer to assist with the successful running of their Legal team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior Lawyer to build upon and develop their Governance and Monitoring experience.

ROLE: Chief Lawyer (acting Deputy Monitoring Lawyer)

LOCATION: Yorkshire, hybrid working

RATE: £60 - £80ph umbrella (rate negotiable)

CONTRACT LENGTH: 7 months

The Role:

  • Ensuring that the Council is advised of its legal rights and liabilities and assisting the Monitoring Officer to perform their statutory duties
  • Advising the Council's project boards and taking a lead role in providing direct legal advice on the Council's key priority projects; and acting as Deputy Monitoring Officer
  • Conduct of high level/value litigation and managing the Legal Services department

The Person:

  • A senior solicitor with a minimum of 5 years PQE and has supervisory experience
  • Someone who has extensive experience of working for a Local Authority
  • Ideally someone with Governance experience but this is not essential
