Job Advertisement: Police Investigator - PVP Team

Rate of Pay: £15.30 per hour

Location: Predominantly based at Lincoln Police Station, with potential assignments at Grantham, Boston, and Skegness Police Stations depending on vacancies.

Job Purpose and Scope:
Are you ready to make a difference and work as part of a dedicated team? Join our Police Investigator role within the PVP Team and be responsible for investigating serious and complex crimes within Lincolnshire. Your role will include interviewing suspects, gathering evidence from victims and witnesses, digital media, and other sources. You will also be tasked with preparing and completing case files in adherence to court deadlines, legislation, and force policies, ensuring compliance with the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA) and the Victims Code of Practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Core Work Areas:


  1. Respond effectively to reports of Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RASSO), child and adult abuse, and Child Sexual Exploitation in accordance with PVP Terms of Reference, Operation Soteria protocol, LSCP and LSAB joint working arrangements, Force policy, NPCC and College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice.

  2. Take ownership of serious and complex criminal investigations, developing proportionate investigation plans and strategies. Prioritize lines of enquiry, gather material, and conduct or coordinate investigations to deliver a high-quality service to all stakeholders.

  3. Interview victims and witnesses, ensuring compliance with the Victims Charter and identifying when victims are significant or vulnerable.

  4. Interview suspects in accordance with PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act) and exercise designated powers under the Police Reform Act, including search and seizure.

  5. Apply investigation procedures effectively to ensure timely response and conclusion of all enquiries.

  6. Gather, develop, and use intelligence effectively, utilizing force IT systems to enhance investigations and inform other departments/line management of identified risks and safeguarding concerns.

  7. Prepare case files within designated timescales, ensuring legislative compliance in line with the CPIA, disclosure rules, and the Manual of Guidance for presentation to the Magistrates and Crown Courts.

  8. Attend court and give evidence related to investigations.

  9. Represent the organisation at multi-agency meetings/case-conferences and apply relevant risk assessment processes to support response and resource prioritisation.

  10. Respond to operational requirements related to PVP and follow directions from PVP Managers.

  11. Cultivate and maintain positive relations between internal departments, external stakeholders, and the community.

  12. Maintain competence and familiarity with relevant legislation, practice agreements, and investigation procedures.

Other Duties:

  • Carry out additional duties within the general scope of the post and department as determined from time to time.
  • Work within a defined shift pattern in PVP hubs.
