Job Title: Senior Digital Forensic Specialist
Location: London, Cockspur Street (Full-time on-site)
Contract Length: 6 months
Pay Rate: Up to £600 per day (DOE)
About the Role:
The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is seeking a Senior Digital Forensic Specialist to join its Digital Forensic Unit (DFU). The DFU is responsible for processing and analyzing digital evidence seized or provided during SFO investigations. As a Senior Digital Forensic Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in building lab capability, ensuring Forensic Science Regulator compliance, and handling complex digital evidence.
You will be a subject matter expert, providing insights, reports, and guidance to DFU colleagues, investigative staff, and Case Teams, contributing to the efficiency of the Criminal Justice System. In addition to conducting complex forensic analysis, you will mentor staff and help develop the unit's capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure systems and work practices comply with applicable standards, including ISO 17025 and the FSR Code of Conduct.
- Develop and implement methods, validation plans, and competency assessments for digital forensic tasks such as extraction, decoding, and conversion of digital media.
- Provide guidance and support to Digital Forensic Specialists on complex technological matters and collaborate to resolve issues.
- Present findings and updates to the Head of Unit and internal stakeholders, recommending improvements to enhance quality and timeliness.
- Assist in strategic planning, review, and coordination of DFU training and examiner development.
- Provide witness statements and attend court to testify on digital forensic work.
- Contribute to office-wide initiatives such as policy development and training to support the strategic direction of the SFO.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Significant experience as a Digital Forensic Investigator/Examiner.
- Proven track record in digital forensic casework and delivering results to stakeholders.
- Extensive knowledge of digital media, operating systems, and forensic tools (e.g., EnCase, Nuix, Cellebrite, XRY, FTK).
- Strong understanding of evidence handling procedures and forensic acquisition, analysis, and interpretation principles.
- Experience in developing and introducing new policies and procedures in a digital forensic environment.
- Knowledge of the Forensic Science Regulator's codes.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience working in a Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice environment.
- Certifications in forensic tools such as EnCase (EnCE), Nuix (NICS), Cellebrite (CCLO or CCPA), or similar.
Security Clearance:
Active SC clearance is required for this role.
